Bust Stress by Treating Your Mom to a Fun Day Out

a senior couple with their son and daughter-in-law and their grandchildren

The weathers had you and your mom stuck inside for days or weeks. Seasonal allergies have had one of you feeling tired and cranky. It could simply be you haven’t had a break in so long that you feel overwhelmed. It’s time to de-stress by getting out of the house.

It’s easy to get out without having to spend a lot of money. Here are the best ways to bust stress when you get out of the house with your mom.

Find an Outdoor Movie or Concert

Senior Care Valley, AZ: Plan a Fun Day Out

As the pandemic ends, many cities are embracing outdoor movies in the parks again. Bring comfortable seating or blanket and pillows to sit on. If the park allows beverages, bring a small cooler filled with your mom’s favorite drinks.

If your mom enjoys live music, outdoor concerts are another idea. Bring earplugs or headphones to protect your hearing in case the speakers are turned up louder than is comfortable from your seats.

Hit the Trails

Find a trail that matches your mom’s abilities. If she needs a cane, choose paved trails or a boardwalk. Look for a day when it’s not supposed to rain or be too hot and go for a long walk. If she needs to take breaks, choose a boardwalk or bike path with benches along the way.

Consider your mom’s interests. If she loves the water, a boardwalk or lakeside path is a great choice. If she’s an avid birdwatcher, a walk-through fields and forests will provide the ideal area for spotting birds.

Arrange a Picnic

Get out of the house for a relaxed lunch. Stop at a deli and buy sandwiches and picnic supplies or pack your own at home. Make sure you properly chill any perishable goods in a cooler that has ice or ice packs.

Once you’ve decided when to go, look for parks, beaches, or other picnic areas with pavilions. If it does rain, it won’t matter. You still get to have lunch outside and enjoy being out of the house, but you’re under a shelter that keeps you dry.

Don’t Forget Your Own Needs for a Break

Caring for your mom is a loving, kind act, but you can’t let it consume you. Don’t forget that you need days off. To ensure your mom has the help she needs without relying solely on you, hire senior care services.

Use senior care services to arrange the help your mom needs from trained professionals in your absence. You’ll have the days off that you need to unwind, and your mom doesn’t have to manage things on her own while you’re away. It’s a win-win situation for you both.
