What are the Fun Activities for Seniors at Assisted Living Facilities?

What are the Fun Activities for Seniors at Assisted Living Facilities?

For a person in their 70s, 80s, or 90s, it may seem there isn’t much to do other than some basic activities at home, like reading. In reality, though, when an aging person has access to the right support, proper care, and a great facility, like assisted living, there are many things they can do.

Reading is just one of the many things aging seniors can enjoy at the right assisted living facility. Elder care may be necessary for a number of people as they age, but it’s not for everyone. However, for those who want to live life to the fullest, who want a high quality of life, even as they deal with health issues, diminished physical abilities, or other factors, assisted living opens the doors that many other options close.

Below are just a few ideas for elderly men and women to do when they choose this elder care option for their future.

1. They can play games with friends.

Even if an aging senior doesn’t know anyone at a specific assisted living facility when they first move in, that will quickly change. Even the most introverted, shy individual won’t be able to help meet other residents and make friends.

When you have friends, it becomes easier to connect based on interests, which may include playing games. Whether it’s a card game, a board game, shuffleboard, or something else, there are going to be plenty of opportunities to enjoy your time at the right assisted living facility and play games with other residents.

2. They may be able to enjoy trips to the library, mall, or even art galleries.

A quality assisted living community is going to provide transportation to its residents so they can get to the mall, walk around, perhaps visit an art gallery or museum, go to the local park, head to the local senior center, a library, and so much more.

As we mentioned at the beginning of this blog, February is Library Lovers Month and that’s why this specific point is such a great reminder of the value and benefits assisted living can offer each senior.

3. Residents can enjoy arts and crafts.

Maybe an elderly person isn’t very interested in arts and crafts. That’s fine. They don’t have to participate. Yet, when art and craft activities or even music are being presented with instructors volunteering their time or charging for their services, seniors can have an opportunity to explore some things they had always wanted to do, but maybe couldn’t pursue because of a career, raising children, or other responsibilities during their younger years.

4. They might be able to do some gardening.

At a facility that has the grounds, they may have community gardens for residents to grow vegetables, flowers, or other annuals or perennials. This is a great activity that not only helps seniors get outside and enjoy the nice weather, but it can also provide them with much-needed exercise and a sense of accomplishment.

You see, there is a lot to do at assisted living for just about any senior of any age.
